Sally-Ann Langley is a British-born artist, and illustrator based in Petaluma, California. Surrounded by the natural beauty of her adopted home, she draws endless inspiration from the flora and fauna that grace the Northern California landscape. This diverse ecosystem infuses her work with a rich tapestry of colors, forms and textures.

 

Sally-Ann paints in watercolor for its delicate, expressive quality which allows her to capture the essence of her subjects. Her botanicals blend vibrant color with contemporary flair. Drawing inspiration from historical decorative arts traditions, particularly the work of William Morris, she infuses her botanical studies with both contemporary energy and a respect for the rich heritage of pattern and design.

She also teaches classes in California. Her teaching approach emphasizes watercolor techniques, including washes, blending, layering, and texture, working with simple shapes and lush colors finished with pattern embellishments. Through in-person workshops and art retreat instruction, she encourages both artists and non-artists to find joy in letting go and tapping into their creative selves, creating an environment where experimentation feels accessible regardless of prior experience.
